Palmetto Beach Club – Location

Palmetto Beach Club - Sunset

The Palmetto beach club is located on the Bozburun Peninsula in an enviable beach front location on the edge of the village of Selimye.

The short walk into the village reveals a living community where traditional occupations such as wooden boat building, farming and fishing continue to thrive.

Selimiye and the surrounding area has a rich history, with the remains of ancient Greek and Roman tombs and temples, ruined castles documenting the rise of the Byzantine empire and later, the domination of the area by the Ottomans with their distinctive architecture and mosques , all very much in evidence.

Traditionally the locals traded almonds and olives which cover the surrounding hillsides. In addition, fishing in the fertile Aegean waters served as a supplement to local income. There are many excellent fish restaurants around the area.

Palmetto is a good touring base for exploring the local area. Hire a car and explore some of the villages and towns of the area, including smaller villages such as Sogut and Turgut or the town of Bozburun, just a short drive away. The resort of Marmaris, just a 35 minute drive, boasts great shopping and varied night life, whilst the famous ancient sites of Ephesus or Kaunos can be reached as a full day out

You can get to Marmaris or Bozburun by regular local minibus (called a Dolmus) or hire a car through the hotel reception A free cultural tour is offered which takes in a traditional boat yard, a mosque and a carpet weaving centre run by a local co-operative, which is well worth the effort when you want a change from sailing.
