Shorebased RYA Courses – Theory Courses

Ionian Sea School

RYA CourseWhether you are an experienced sailor, or totally new to the sport, our London-based theory courses will be able to offer you something! The RYA theory course scheme is designed to complement the Practical Course structure, but also stand alone as a world wide recognised course.

Seafarer will be offering a variety courses covering basic navigation, including the Day Skipper Theory Course, advanced navigation techniques, in the Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore Theory Course, a fist aid course and the VHF radio course, which will give you a lifelong legal license to operate a short range radio.

All of these courses will be offered either from our RYA Shore based Training Centre at the Seafarer offices in London, a very short walk from Tottenham Hale main line, tube and bus station, or in London's Docklands at the Docklands Sailing & Water Sports Centre (DSWC), in co-operation with City Sailing. Both locations have parking available for those that prefer to drive.

Our courses are inclusive of all course materials, teaching equipment and refreshments. The only thing you need to bring to our teaching centres is a willingness to learn. We have an informal approach to our teaching where you can easily assimilate the required knowledge and test your new found skills. The courses will be kept to small number of people, around 10 people per course as a maximum, to make sure that the teaching is kept as bespoke as possible.

The two navigation courses will be taught across 5 days, on weekends, and there will be two VHF courses available, each over one day. Alternatively you can do a combination of 5 evenings, combined with on line learning, or you can opt for distance learning on line course where you can work at your own pace, though with the back up and support of your instructor by email, or even by telephone.
